If there's one holy grail makeup product that I am always on the hunt for, it's the perfect foundation. And you know, the Smashbox Studio Skin 15 Hour Wear Hydrating Foundation (how's that for a mouthful!) comes pretty darn close.
I purchased this after hearing a few great reviews from beauty aficionados like Chloe Morello and because I sometimes struggle with dry skin around my cheeks, which is a real pain when it comes to applying foundation. So the fact that this is a hydrating foundation really had me keen!
But does it work? And does it actually last 15 hours? Read on to find out!
Packaging
For a $61 foundation, it comes as I would expect - in a nice box, and the product itself is housed in a sturdy glass bottle. The Smashbox 15 Hour Foundation both looks and feels luxe, so you do feel like you're getting a good product for the money you're spending.
Once you remove the little cap off the top, a little push-pump is revealed. Being a liquid foundation, I'm really pleased with the addition of a pump to dispense the product. SO many liquid foundations don't have these and I have caused many a mess trying to negotiate with a pumpless foundation in the morning.
Formula
It's pretty well-known that many Smashbox makeup products are developed as professional photography makeup, and the Smashbox 15 Hour Foundation is meant to last a full 15 hours, keep the skin hydrated and shine-free, diminish the appearance of imperfections and be water, sweat, humidity and transfer resistant. That's a lot of accolades for one foundation to wear!
The product itself is super creamy and the coverage is easily buildable if one layer isn't quite enough. Below, you can see I've smeared out one pump of the foundation (the blob on the right haha!) and blended a small amount on the left.
The effect of the blended out side is natural, but still pretty even with good coverage. It also feels slightly 'sticky' on the skin, but most long wearing formulas do, and that sensation is gone as soon as you apply a powder on top.
Application & Longevity
I've been using this foundation everyday for about three weeks now, and it has quickly become one of my favourites in my collection. I just apply a few dots of it all over my face and then use a damp beauty blender to blend it in.
To show you guys the coverage, I've only applied the Smashbox 15 Hour Foundation to one side of my face. I have the shade 1.2, which is just a touch lighter than my actual skin tone. My skin isn't perfect, but the foundation still does a great job of evening out my skin tone and covering that pesky redness I seem to always get!
Here I am with the rest of my makeup on (including concealer and powder). I love the way it looks while it doesn't quite still look flawless by the 15hour mark (I normally apply it at 7:30am and by the time it's 6:00pm - so just under 12 hours - I do need to apply some powder to get rid of the shininess if I'm going out after work), it still looks great for my entire work day.
It does tend to crease in my smile lines, but honestly, that happens with literally every foundation I've ever tried. Maybe I should just default my facial expressions to 'resting b*tch face' and stop smiling so much haha!
As mentioned earlier in the post, you can grab this bad boy for $61 from Mecca Maxima. It's a bit on the expensive side, but if you're looking for a long lasting foundation that's great for everyday, I'd definitely recommend this one!
